Company Pension
Summary
The Pension page is the Company Money view for a single pension benefit. Use the Members tab to enrol, defer, opt out, unenrol, or view employees, and use the Contributions tab to view, submit, resubmit, or download pension contributions for a pay cycle.

Before you begin
You must have an active Payroll add-on to access and use Payroll features.
You need Company Money access and View Company Benefit permission to open the Benefits tab.
Additional permissions determine the pension actions available to you:
- View Company Pension – View a pension member.
- Enrol Company Pension – Enrol a member.
- Defer Company Pension – Defer pension enrolment.
- Opt-out Company Pension – Opt a member out.
- Unenrol Company Pension – Unenrol a member.
- Pension Transaction Activity Logs – Open Action > Activity Log.
- Company Pension Contributions – Open the Contributions tab.
- View Pension Contribution Summary – View a contribution row.
- Pension Contributions Submit – Submit or resubmit contributions.
- Pension Contributions Download – Download contributions.
Create the pension scheme first under Admin > Benefits with Category Pension and Type Recurring.
Set the Provider and Worker Groups on the Admin benefit details before enrolling employees.
Provider details must also be complete before enrolment. An eligibility check can display Please update provider details before enrolling if information is missing.
The page heading displays the benefit name.
Opening Pension
Log in to Plumm and open the 9-dot menu.
Under Money, select Company Money.
Open an Active location and select the Benefits tab.
Select the required Pension card.
The Pension page contains:
- Members – always displayed and opened by default.
- Contributions – displayed only when you have Company Pension Contributions permission.
Using the Members tab
The Members tab displays employees associated with the pension benefit.
Use Search to find a member. Header filters are also available.
If there are no records, Plumm displays Nothing to show here yet.
Available page sizes are:
- 10
- 50
- 100
- 200
- 500
The grid displays:
Name
Displays the person's name and profile image.
Scheme
Displays the pension provider name.
State
Displays the automatic assessment state from the member record.
Eligibility
Eligibility can display:
- Eligible – green tag.
- Not Eligible – red tag.
- Not Assessed – yellow tag.
Last Action
Displays the date of the most recent action.
Worker Group
Displays the worker group assigned to the member.
Status
Pension member statuses include:
- Enrolled – the person is in the scheme.
- Re-Enrolled – the person has been enrolled again.
- Not Enrolled – the person is not in the scheme.
- Processing – enrolment is in progress.
- Deferred – enrolment has been postponed.
- Opt-out – the person has left the scheme through Opt Out.
- Processing Error – enrolment failed or requires attention.
Available row actions depend on the member's status, eligibility, whether the user is active, the pension provider, and your permissions.
View is available for Enrolled, Re-Enrolled, or Processing members when Eligibility is Eligible and you have View Company Pension permission.
It is also available for Not Enrolled or Processing Error when you have View Company Pension permission.
Enrol
The Enrol row action is available for Not Enrolled or Processing Error when you have Enrol Company Pension permission.
It is also available for Deferred or Opt-out members.
If the user is inactive, enrolment is disabled. The tooltip displays User is inactive, enrollment is disabled and the disabled action label is Enroll.
Select Enrol to open the enrolment sidebar.
The sidebar heading is Enrol to Pension - [benefit name] and the footer button is Enroll.
Assessment
The Assessment section explains the pension eligibility requirements.
The information states that, by law, an employee who is 22 years old or over but under State Pension age and earns more than £10,000 a year for the current tax year must be put into a pension scheme.
Select Assess to run an eligibility check when you need a current assessment.
Employee
Displays the employee and cannot be edited.
Worker Type
Displays the worker type from the assessment.
The eligibility information states Eligibility Criteria - Age (22-67) and earning in period more than 833 (pro- rata of 10000).
Action Required
Displays the action required following the assessment.
Assessment Date
Displays the assessment date when available.
Pension Scheme
Displays the pension scheme.
Pension Provider
Displays the pension provider and cannot be edited.
Worker Group
Select the required worker group.
The field is required and initially displays Select.
If no option is selected, Plumm displays Required field.
Employer and employee contribution percentages are populated from the selected worker group and cannot be edited.
Enrollment Date
Select the required enrolment date.
The field is required, uses the dd/mm/yy format, and displays Select Date before a date is selected.
If the field is empty, Plumm displays Required field.
Employer Contribution (%)
Displays the employer contribution percentage from the selected worker group.
This field cannot be edited.
Employee Contribution (%)
Displays the employee contribution percentage from the selected worker group.
This field cannot be edited.
Enrollment Errors
This section displays provider or validation errors when enrolment cannot be completed.
Messages can include:
- User Enrolment is under process
- Please update provider details before enrolling.
- IR35 workers cannot be enrolled in pension
- User not eligible
- Please update the address for this user before enrolling
- Your Account has been locked, please contact Nest
- National Insurance Number is invalid or in incorrect format
- Error occured, please refresh and try again
Select Enroll to complete the action.
Deferral
Deferral is available for a Not Enrolled or Processing Error member when you have Defer Company Pension permission.
Select Deferral to open the sidebar.
The sidebar heading is Deferral from Pension - [benefit name] and the footer button is Save.
The sidebar explains that enrolment can be postponed for up to three months, the employee will be enrolled on the selected deferred date, and the employee will be notified.

Employee
Displays the employee and cannot be edited.
Enrollment Date
Select the required deferred enrolment date.
The field is required and uses the dd/mm/yy format.
The placeholder is Select Date, and the date picker is limited to the start and end dates from the person's record.
If no date is selected, Plumm displays Required field.
Select Save to complete the deferral.
Opt Out
Opt Out is available for Enrolled, Re-Enrolled, or Processing members when you have Opt-out Company Pension permission.
If the Scheme is Nest or Peoples, Opt Out is disabled. The tooltip displays Provider does not allow opt-out via this platform.
Select Opt Out to open the sidebar.
The sidebar heading is Leaving Pension and the footer button is Opt Out.
The sidebar confirms that the employee has asked to leave the pension, that a record will be kept, and that the pension provider may still require the employee to notify them directly.
State
Select the required state.
This field is required and initially displays Select.
Available options are:
- Automatic – Assess the employee as normal.
- Opt Out – The employee has chosen to opt out of the Auto Enrolment process within the allowed opt-out period.
- Opt In – The employee has chosen to opt in to an Auto Enrolment pension.
- Voluntary Joiner – A normally excluded employee has chosen to join an Auto Enrolment pension.
- Contractual Pension – The employee is to be enrolled in an AE compatible pension under condition of contract.
- Ceased Membership – The employee has chosen to leave the Auto Enrolment pension scheme after the allowed opt-out period.
- Leaver – The employee is leaving or has left employment.
- Excluded – The employee is excluded from Auto Enrolment assessment.
- Enrol – Force the enrolment in an AE Pension. The State then reverts to Automatic.
If no State is selected, Plumm displays Required field.
Leave Date
Select the required leave date.
This field is required, uses the dd/mm/yy format, and displays Select Date before a date is selected.
If the field is empty, Plumm displays Required field.
Do not report leave adion to the pension provider
Select this optional checkbox when required.
Refund all contributions.
Select this optional checkbox when required.
Select Opt Out to complete the action.
Unenrol
Unenrol is available for Enrolled, Re-Enrolled, or Processing members when you have Unenrol Company Pension permission.
There is no confirmation window. The action runs immediately when selected.
When successful, Plumm displays:
To unenroll the employee completely, please action it on the pension platform
Unenrol sets the person back to not enrolled in Plumm. You must complete the remaining action on the pension platform.
Error messages can include:
- User does not exists in this pension
- Error occured, please refresh and try again
Viewing a member
Select View on an available member row.
The sidebar heading displays the benefit name.
The sidebar contains:
- Employee
- Enrollment Date
- Type
- Employer Contribution (%)
- Employee Contribution (%)
- Last Updated By
- Created By
Type displays the benefit name.
Opening Activity Log
You need Pension Transaction Activity Logs permission to access the Activity Log.
Select Action > Activity Log.
The modal heading is Activity Log.
Entries are grouped by date and display the time and description of each activity.
If there are no entries, Plumm displays Nothing to show here yet.
Select Cancel to close the Activity Log.
The Members tab also includes a grid export control.
Using the Contributions tab
You need Company Pension Contributions permission to access the Contributions tab.
Use Search to find a contribution record.
If there are no records, Plumm displays Nothing to show here yet.
Available page sizes are:

The grid displays:
Schedule
Displays the pay schedule name.
Period
Displays the contribution period.
Pay Cycle
Displays the pay cycle name.
Employees
Displays the employee count.
Employer
Displays the total employer contribution.
Employee
Displays the total employee contribution.
Status
Contribution statuses include:
- Success – green tag.
- Failed – red tag.
- Submitted – yellow tag.
- Pending – yellow tag.
- Processing – yellow tag.
View
You need View Pension Contribution Summary permission.
Select View to open Pension Contribution View, which displays:
- Name
- Employee Contribution
- Employer Contribution
Submit
You need Pension Contributions Submit permission.
Submit is available when the status is Pending and the provider is:
- Nest
- Smart
- People
- Peoples
- Penfold
Selecting Submit opens Pension Contributions.
Tick I confirm all the details are correct for this submission to enable the Submit button.
The Submit button remains disabled until the confirmation box is ticked.
Plumm can also display a Submit Contribution confirmation window with:
Are you sure you want to submit this contribution?
Select Cancel or Confirm.
Resubmit
Resubmit is available when the status is not Success and not Pending, for the supported providers, when you have Pension Contributions Submit permission.
Download
You need Pension Contributions Download permission.
Download is displayed inside the same menu that requires Pension Contributions Submit.
Contribution messages can include:
- Contributions Submitted Successfully.
- One or more Contributions Failed.
- No employees present to submit the contributions.
- Account Id or token must not be null
- Birth date or Gender fields are missing for user : [name]
- Please update the address for user : [name]
- Working group is missing for user : [name]
Downloading contributions
Select Download on a contribution row when the option is available.
The downloaded file is export.csv.
The file contains:
- Name
- Status
- NINumber
- Pensionable Earnings
- Gross Earnings
- Employer Contribution
- Employee Contribution
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- What is the difference between Enrol and Enroll?
The row action is Enrol. The sidebar footer button is Enroll. When the user is inactive, the disabled action label is also Enroll. - Why is Opt Out disabled?
Opt Out is disabled when the Scheme is Nest or Peoples. The tooltip displays Provider does not allow opt-out via this platform. - Why can I not see Contributions?
You need Company Pension Contributions permission to access the Contributions tab. - Does Unenrol finish the process?
No. Plumm displays To unenroll the employee completely, please action it on the pension platform. You must complete the remaining action on the pension platform. - Where do I add a Worker Group?
Go to Admin > Benefits, open the pension benefit, then open Worker Groups. On the Company Money Pension page, Worker Group is a required dropdown during enrolment. - What do Enrolled, Re-Enrolled, Not Enrolled, Deferred, and Opt-out mean?
Enrolled means the person is in the pension scheme. Re-Enrolled means they have been enrolled again. Not Enrolled means they are not in the scheme. Deferred means enrolment has been postponed, while Opt-out means they left the scheme through Opt Out. Processing and Processing Error can also be displayed.
